Trainer Qualifications & Certification

Ensures trainers possess verified expertise, qualifications, and certifications.
Main Criterion: Trainer Qualification & Performance
Focuses on the expertise, skills, ongoing development, and evaluation of the trainers, who are central to the training experience.
Sub-criterion: Trainer Qualifications & Certification
Part of Trainer Qualification & Performance

Standard

Trainers possess appropriate, verified subject matter expertise, qualifications/experience in training methodology and delivery, and relevant certifications (including IBCT certification where applicable) for the courses they deliver.

Rationale

Qualified and certified trainers ensure accurate content delivery, effective use of instructional techniques, professional conduct, and adherence to quality standards.

Evidence/Indicators

  • Trainer CVs/resumes detailing expertise and experience.
  • Copies of relevant degrees, diplomas, and professional certifications (incl. IBCT).
  • Documented process for verifying trainer qualifications and expertise.
  • Matrix mapping trainers to specific courses based on required competencies.
  • Policy stating minimum qualification requirements for trainers.

Metrics

  • % of trainers meeting documented minimum qualification standards for their assigned courses.
  • % of trainers holding relevant professional certifications (discipline-specific or training-specific).
  • % of active trainers holding current IBCT certification.
  • Number/percentage of courses taught by trainers lacking specific documented qualifications for that course.

Performance Levels

  • Non-Compliant: Trainers lack required subject matter or training methodology expertise; qualifications are not verified or documented. Significant mismatch between trainer skills and course requirements.
  • Developing: Trainers generally have subject expertise, but qualifications in training methodology or relevant certifications are lacking, inconsistent, or poorly documented. Verification process is weak.
  • Meets Standard: Most trainers possess documented subject matter expertise and appropriate qualifications/experience in training delivery; relevant certifications are held by many; qualifications are verified.
  • Exceeds Standard: All trainers possess verified, high-level subject matter expertise and strong credentials/experience in training methodology; relevant certifications (incl. IBCT) are widely held and actively maintained; robust verification process ensures optimal trainer-course fit.
